Why add FCO Coconut oil?

Fractionated coconut oil is a type of coconut oil that has undergone a process called fractionation to separate certain components of the oil. Regular coconut oil is composed of various fatty acids, including both short-chain and long-chain triglycerides. Fractionation involves separating these fatty acids to create a more stable and specific type of coconut oil with certain properties.

During the fractionation process, coconut oil is typically heated and then cooled, allowing different components to solidify at different temperatures. This separation results in a clear, liquid oil that remains in a liquid state even at lower temperatures. The solid components, which have a higher melting point, are removed. Here are some key characteristics and uses of fractionated coconut oil:

Liquid at Room Temperature: Fractionated coconut oil remains in liquid form regardless of the ambient temperature. This makes it convenient for various applications where a liquid oil is needed.

Long Shelf Life: Due to the removal of certain components that can lead to spoilage, fractionated coconut oil has a longer shelf life compared to regular coconut oil.

Stability: The removal of some of the fatty acids that are prone to oxidation and rancidity results in a more stable oil that has a longer shelf life and can withstand higher temperatures without breaking down.

Non-Greasy Feel: Fractionated coconut oil is often used in skincare and massage products because it is lightweight and has a non-greasy feel when applied to the skin.

Carrier Oil: It's commonly used as a carrier oil for essential oils in aromatherapy and massage. Its light texture helps dilute essential oils and allows them to be applied more easily to the skin.

Cosmetics: Fractionated coconut oil is used in the formulation of various cosmetics and skincare products due to its light texture and moisturizing properties.

Hair Care: It can be used in hair, skin and nail treatments and products to add shine and moisture to the hair without leaving it greasy.

Medical and Therapeutic Uses: Fractionated coconut oil is sometimes used in medical and therapeutic applications, such as in the formulation of some medications and as a base for certain medical ointments.

It's important to note that while fractionated coconut oil has its own set of benefits, it lacks some of the natural compounds and potential health benefits found in unrefined, virgin coconut oil. As with any product, it's advisable to choose fractionated coconut oil that has been processed using reputable methods and is suitable for your intended use.
